U okviru programa Exposium, završnog događanja projekta Testing Ground: Reparative Practices for New Cultural Ecosystem, od 7. do 9. studenog održava se ciklus Rizomatske geste, niz prezentacija umjetničkih procesa članica Rhizome tima, jednog od timova za kreativno istraživanje oformljenih u okviru projekta.

Iz teksta kustosice Lee Vene: “Rhizome tim ulazi u arhiv projekta Testing Ground u potrazi za okidačima koje upisuje u nove umjetničke projekte autorica Maje Bojanić, Hrvoslave Brkušić, Nadije Markiewicz i Fette Sans. U formatu audio šetnje, performansa, otvorene probe i radne sobe umjetnice otvaraju vlastiti umjetnički proces rada kao dijalog između spomenute arhive i osobnih projekata započetih izvan ovog konteksta.

Maja Bojanić nas poziva na audio ekspediciju kroz divlju ekologiju prostora Pogona kojeg nagriza plijesan i vlaga. Nadia Markiewicz istražuje anomalije u porodici ruža kako bi kroz performans oživjela vlastitu baladu o mutantskoj ruži. Hrvoslava Brkušić uranja u jugofuturističko istraživanje arhiva o Vedi Zagorac (jedna od utemeljiteljica Muzeja afričke umetnosti u Beogradu) i njenog života u Africi. Zajedno s Fette Sans pratimo protagonisticu njenog novog filma kroz otvorenu probu koja rastvara odnos redateljice i glavne glumice.

Četiri site specific umjetničke pozicije u nastajanju otvoreno progovaraju o individualnim umjetničkim metodologijama rada i mogućim reparativnim modelima umjetničkog djelovanja.”

O AUTORICAMA:

Maja Bojanić je vizualna umjetnica koja istražuje duboko ukorijenjena vjerovanja o povijesti. U njenom radu, prostori preuzimaju uloge osjećajnih entiteta koji otkrivaju skrivenu baštinu, otvarajući portale prema zamišljenim budućnostima. Diplomirala je na Akademiji za likovnu umjetnost i dizajn u Ljubljani, a trenutno je na magistarskom studiju na Sveučilištu primijenjenih umjetnosti u Beču. Godine 2024. bila je nominirana za nagradu OHO za mlade vizualne umjetnike_ce. Dobitnica je stipendije Ad Futura.

Hrvoslava Brkušić diplomirala je filmsku i TV montažu na Akademiji dramske umjetnosti i magistrirala na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti na Odsjeku za Nove medije. Montirala je niz filmova koji su bili prikazivani na festivalima poput Rotterdama, IDFA-e Amsterdam, CPH DOX-a, Sarajeva, 25 FPS-a, Oberhausena i mnogih drugih. U umjetničkoj praksi izražava se u različitim medijima – zvučnim instalacijama, izvedbama uživo, filmu i videu. Jedna je od suosnivačica umjetničkog kolektiva Ljubavnice. Izlagala je u Hrvatskoj, Srbiji, Sloveniji, Poljskoj, Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, Španjolskoj, Francuskoj, Latviji. Kao edukatorica radi u Restartu i na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti.

Nadia Markiewicz je vizualna umjetnica, izvođačica, autorica instalacija i video radova iz Varšave. Doktorandica je na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti Jana Matejka u Krakovu, a magistrirala je u Studiju prostornih aktivnosti pod mentorstvom prof. Mirosława Bałke na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Varšavi. Također je studirala na Akademiji Gerrit Rietveld u Amsterdamu i završila praksu u Studiju performansa na FaVU VUT u Brnu, u vodstvu Julie Béne i Jakuba Janse. Bila je rezidentica Međunarodnog studijskog i kustoskog programa u New Yorku (2023). Dobitnica je nagrade Europe Beyond Access, koju dodjeljuju Nacionalna galerija umjetnosti Zachęta i British Council (2021), te joj je dodijeljen Grand Prix na 10. Bijenalu mlade umjetnosti Rybie Oko (2022). Njeni radovi su izlagani, između ostalog, u Muzeju moderne umjetnosti u Varšavi, Nacionalnoj galeriji umjetnosti Zachęta, Kunsthalle Bratislava i Sto Lat galeriji u New Yorku.

Fette Sans je umjetnica čija konceptualna i interdisciplinarna praksa uključuje proizvodnju slika, pisanje, izvedbe, online geste, filmove, diskusije i instalacije. Godine 2021. napisala je scenarij, režirala i glumila u 45-minutnom filmu AGIRLICA, koji je premijerno prikazan u kinu BrotFabrik u sklopu njezine samostalne izložbe u Neun Kelcheu u Berlinu. Dobila je nagradu za najbolji film snimljen smartphoneom na Mykonos Film Festivalu 2022. i za najbolji eksperimentalni film na ARFF-u u Parizu. Godine 2017. izvela je petomjesečni performans u sobi Hotela Zoo Berlin, u kojem je čitavo vrijeme besplatno živjela. Ovaj opsežni projekt iznjedrio je niz videa, knjiga i predmeta. Njezin dugoročni performativni rad The bitter ends of (the technology of tenderness) izveden je u HAUS-u (Beč), na Organu Vida (Zagreb) i na festivalu Montag Modus (Alte Münze, Berlin). Držala je predavanja na Volksbühne u Berlinu, na Sveučilištu Bauhaus te za vrijeme Istanbulskog bijenala. Dobitnica je stipendija Stiftung Kunstfonds, Akademie der Künst i Kunststiftung NRW. Iduće godine sudjelovat će u tromjesečnoj rezidenciji u Malt Airu u Danskoj kako bi radila na novom filmu.

Lea Vene je povjesničarka umjetnosti, kulturna antropologinja i teoretičarka mode. Trenutno kurira programe za međunarodni festival fotografije Organ Vida i Galeriju Močvara. Radi kao istraživačica u Centru za istraživanje mode i odijevanja – CIMO i predaje kao vanjska suradnica na Tekstilno-tehnološkom fakultetu i Akademiji dramskih umjetnosti.

In the framework of Exposium, the final event of the project Testing Ground: Reparative Practices for New Cultural Ecosystem, the Rhizomatic Gestures cycle will take place from November 7 to 9. This series will consist of presentations showcasing the artistic processes of the members of the Rhizome team, one of the creative research teams formed within the project.

From curator Lea Vene‘s text: “The Rhizome team enters the archive of the project Testing Ground: Reparative Practices for New Cultural Ecosystem in search of triggers that it writes into new artistic projects of authors Maja Bojanić, Hrvoslava Brkušić, Nadia Markiewicz and Fette Sans. In the format of an audio walk, performance, open rehearsal and work room, the artists open up their artistic work processes as a form of dialogue between the above-mentioned archive and personal projects initiated outside of this context.

Maja Bojanić invites us on an audio expedition through the wild ecology of Pogon’s space, corroded by mould and dampness. Nadia Markiewicz investigates anomalies in the rose family in order to revive her own ballad about a mutant rose through her performance. Hrvoslava Brkušić dives into the Yugofuturist research of the archive about Veda Zagorac (one of the founders of the Museum of African Art in Belgrade) and her life in Africa. With Fette Sans, we follow the protagonist of her new film through an open rehearsal examining the relationship between the director and the leading actress. Four emergent site-specific artistic positions openly speak about individual artistic methodologies and possible reparative models of artistic action.”

Maja Bojanić is a visual artist exploring deep-rooted beliefs about history and its preservation. In her work, spaces occupy the roles of sentient entities that uncover hidden heritages, opening portals to imagined futures. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 2024, she was nominated for the OHO Young Visual Artist Award. She is the recipient of the Ad Futura scholarship fund.

Hrvoslava Brkušić graduated in Film and TV Editing from the Academy of Dramatic Art and earned her master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of New Media, Zagreb. She has edited numerous films that have been screened at festivals such as Rotterdam, IDFA Amsterdam, CPH DOX, Sarajevo, 25 FPS, Oberhausen, and many others. In her artistic practice, she expresses herself through various media — sound installations, live performances, film, and video. She is one of the co-founders of the artistic collective Ljubavnice (Lovers). Her work has been exhibited in Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Latvia. As an educator, she works at Restart and the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.

Nadia Markiewicz is a visual artist, performer, author of installations and videos based in Warsaw, Poland. PhD fellow at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. MFA graduate of the Studio of Spatial Activities of prof. Mirosław Bałka at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Also studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and completed an internship at the Studio of Performance at FaVU VUT in Brno, run by Julie Béna and Jakub Jansa. Resident of the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York City (2023). Winner of the Europe Beyond Access award granted by Zachęta National Gallery of Art and the British Council (2021) and the Grand Prix at the 10th Rybie Oko Young Art Biennial (2022). Her works have been shown, among others, at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Kunsthalle Bratislava, Sto Lat Gallery in New York.

Fette Sans has a conceptual and interdisciplinary practice that includes the production of images, writing, performances, online gestures, film-making, discussions, and installations. In 2021, she wrote, directed, and performed in the 45-minute film AGIRLICA. It premiered in the BrotFabrik kino as part of her solo exhibition at Neun Kelche in Berlin. It won the prizes for best smartphone film at the 2022 Mykonos Film Festival and for best experimental film at ARFF Paris. In 2017, she staged a 5-month-long performance in a room of the Hotel Zoo Berlin where she lived, at no cost, during the entire time. This extensive project brought forth a series of videos, books and objects. Her ongoing performative work The bitter ends of (the technologies of tenderness) was performed at HAUS (Vienna), during Organ Vida (Zagreb), and at the festival Montag Modus (Alte Münze, Berlin). She has been giving lectures at the Volksbühne in Berlin, at the Bauhaus University, and during the Istanbul Biennial. She has been the recipient of grants from Stiftung Kunstfonds, Akademie der Künst, and Kunststiftung NRW. Next year, she will take part in a 3-month-long residency at Malt Air in Denmark to develop a new film.

Lea Vene is an independent curator, cultural anthropologist, and lecturer at the Faculty of Textile Technology and the Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb. She curates exhibition programs for the International Photography Festival Organ Vida and performance events for Gallery Močvara. She’s a researcher at CIMO – Centre for Research of Fashion and Clothing (Zagreb, Croatia).
