About
Kurziv is an association that has been developing notable publishing, educational, research, archival and interdisciplinary programs since 2009. Some of our ongoing programs include the Kulturpunkt.hr web magazine, the Alphabet of independent culture (a program dedicated to archiving and historicizing the practices of the independent cultural scene), the Kulturpunkt Journalism School (a semester-long educational cycle for young people), the Laboratory of Reparative Practices (focused on interdisciplinary collaborations and production), and Critical Dramaturgy (a thematic educational and artistic annual program).

Our mission is realized through a non-profit web portal Kulturpunkt.hr; interdisciplinary programs in the field of contemporary culture, education and media; by documenting and researching the activities of the independent cultural scene, and other forms of public activity.

Background
Kurziv is a non-profit organisation whose activities are dedicated to media, culture and education. Its activities, realized both in online and offline space, are aimed at changing, reshaping and deepening public discussion on the topics and issues of contemporary cultural and artistic practices, civil society and media.
The central project of the organisation is Kulturpunkt.hr, a non-profit news portal that was founded in 2005. Its goal is to intervene in Croatian media landscape by presenting, analysing and contextualising contemporary artistic and cultural production, and by ensuring visibility for activities of civil society organisations. Through active involvement with cultural and artistic production, Kulturpunkt.hr has become the only media which gives the most comprehensive and continuous insight into the activities and development of independent culture in Croatia, and its importance simultaneously spreads in the regional context.
Starting from this core project, Kurziv is today an organization deeply embedded in the fabric of independent cultural scene. Not only do we support the work of organizations, individuals, and institutions while closely collaborating with many of them, but we also develop our own socially engaged public programs and cultivate practices that act critically toward the broader social context, promoting underrepresented perspectives and aiming to intervene in existing hierarchies and power relations.
Over the years, Kurziv has developed several strategic goals and activities. Kurziv is enhancing the position of culture in the Croatian public landscape, with a specific focus on independent cultural production. Furthermore, it is one of the main actors in the advocacy efforts towards strengthening of the position of non-profit media, culture and civil society in Croatia. Organization has also recognized the importance of historicizing the development of the independent cultural scene in the last twenty years and thus initiated project dedicated to archiving, documenting and analysing this important segment of the cultural scene in Croatia. Kurziv organizes an educational program for young journalists, Kulturpunkt’s Journalistic School, consisting of journalism skills training courses and lectures on theoretical and historical approaches to contemporary culture, arts and theory.
Since 2020, the development of reparative cultural practices has been a guiding principle across the organization’s programs. We cultivate this approach by creating spaces for interdisciplinary encounters between actors who, in various formats, envision and practice alternative approaches to cultural and artistic work, as well as through the development of transdisciplinary methodologies for creative research, reflection, and intervention in the broader social context.
